Glasgow coma scale6/13/2023 ![]() This method allowed both nurses who were and those who were not able to memorize the GCS to participate. Some nurses scored patients’ GCS without using the card. Nurses were given GCS scoring reference cards, with real-time use being optional. The study’s researchers did not train participating nurses in GCS evaluation. Because significant changes in the patient’s GCS score might occur during observations, each observation was not allowed to exceed 5 minutes. Each patient’s primary ICU nurse and the 2 additional researchers were given 1 minute to independently record the patient’s total GCS score and the eye, verbal, and motor subcomponent scores. Participating nurses’ experience levels and patients’ medical diagnoses were recorded. Participating researchers designed the data collection form used in the study.
