Vsphere mtu 90006/8/2023 The biggest problem with jumbo frames is inconsistency in the path (besides the fact that it doesn't do much good these days). That kind of makes sense to me, even though it is overly restrictive. It is either always 9000 or negotiated or there is a 'support only' command you can run on them to turn jumbo frames on or off at the group level, I think. They don't even let you set the MTU in the management interface anymore. Why would you ever want 8096 byte frames on this port and 9000 byte frames on that port and 9216 byte frames on the other port? That seems like a certain way to promote failure. I usually work on relatively low end gear but even some of the more expensive stuff I have worked on like metro E switches and stuff seem to be 'on or off' even though it looks like you can type in whatever on the command line. Well, I should say that almost all I have worked on let you type in a value, but if you type anything besides the value shown in the documentation or contextual help it will reject the command.
